He is based on the real-life historical figures Takechi Hanpeita WP and Sakamoto Ryoma, and is portrayed by the Yakuza 0 character Keiji Shibusawa, who is in turn portrayed by actor Hideo Nakano. Takechi is the founder and leader of the Tosa Loyalist Party. A year-long search takes him to Kyo, where, on suspicion the masked man is connected to the Shinsengumi, he infiltrates the organization as its newly-appointed Third Division Captain. Vowing to pursue the killer, a masked user of the Tennen Rishin style, Ryoma goes into hiding and assumes the identity of Saito Hajime.Īs Saito, he maintains a laid-back facade, appearing to spend most of his time drinking and gambling in reality, he pursues the investigation with seriousness and diligence. On the eve of the revolution, however, he is framed for Toyo's assassination.
Upon his return to Tosa from a year spent studying swordsmanship in Edo, he is appointed the Party Representative of the Tosa Loyalist Party by Takechi. Alongside his adoptive father Yoshida Toyo and adoptive brother Takechi Hanpeita, he seeks to reform Tosa's class system.
Though chivalrous, compassionate, and possessing unparalleled skill with the blade, he remains somewhat directionless in life.
